Former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman continues to battle injuries.
Weidman was scheduled to face Anderson Silva in a trilogy bout, this time in the boxing ring on the Jake Paul vs. Anthony Joshua card Dec. 19 at Kaseya Center in Miami. However, an accident in training forced Weidman to pull out of the fight, and he's been replaced by Tyron Woodley.
“Tore my bicep tendon throwing a left hook,” Weidman said on Instagram. “There goes that tendon. I tried to push through. I tried to give it some rest. It was 95 percent torn and because there was still a bit of tendon left, it was just too painful. I couldn't get through it. I would have been better off if the thing was completely torn after the inflammation went down from that.
“It would have been a little bit weaker, but I think I would have been able to fight and then get the surgery afterwards, but unfortunately every time I would give it a rest and try to give it a shot to train again, I would feel good shadow boxing and stuff, and then as soon as I would speed up my punches, it was really bad pain, and I couldn't even hold my arm up for defense anymore. It sucks.”
Weidman (16-8) was the one to put an end to Silva's dominant middleweight title reign when he knocked him out at UFC 162. He won their rematch at UFC 168 when Silva broke his leg, an injury Weidman would later suffer himself. Weidman claims he has gone under the knife over 30 times throughout his career.
