Sir Alex Ferguson Praises Ruben Amorim’s Rising Star at Man United
Few figures carry more weight in football than Sir Alex Ferguson, and when he offers praise, it tends to mean something. The legendary former Manchester United manager has singled out Senne Lammens as one of the club’s most impressive recent additions, describing the young goalkeeper’s start under Ruben Amorim as “outstanding”.
Lammens Emerges as United’s New Guardian
Manchester United entered the November international break on a five-game unbeaten streak, including notable wins over Sunderland, Liverpool and Brighton, along with draws against Nottingham Forest and Tottenham Hotspur. Among those to catch the eye has been Belgian keeper Lammens, who Ferguson believes embodies the kind of steady progress United fans have been craving.
“There are signs, the manager has had some good signs,” Ferguson told Raceday RTV. “Particularly the goalkeeper has been outstanding. He’s only played three or four games and he’s looking really good.”

Signed from Royal Antwerp for £18.1 million, Lammens was initially made to wait behind Altay Bayındır before finally making his debut on 4 October against Sunderland. The 22-year-old marked that first start with a clean sheet at Old Trafford and has since retained his place. His standout display came in the 2-1 victory over Liverpool, where he produced five crucial saves to frustrate the defending Premier League champions.
Amorim’s Rebuild Gains Momentum
Ruben Amorim’s project at Manchester United entered its second season under cautious optimism, following a turbulent 2024-25 campaign. The Portuguese coach has sought to balance youth and experience while reshaping the team’s tactical identity. Ferguson’s public backing will be a welcome boost as Amorim looks to re-establish the consistency that once defined United during the Scot’s era.
Ferguson also praised Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha for “adding” to the club’s recent progress. Mbeumo, with four goals in five matches, has been one of Amorim’s most effective forward options, while Cunha and Benjamin Šeško have shown flashes of attacking promise that suggest a long-term plan taking shape.
Ferguson’s Faith in Amorim
“I hope the manager gets a bit of success because at United you need to have success… the signs are getting better,” Ferguson said. His message underlines both encouragement and expectation, a reminder that the standards at Old Trafford remain unrelenting.
“I think back-to-back wins is something teams like United should always expect. But having gone through a cycle where the improvement has to come by waiting and being patient, they’ll enjoy it now.”
Manchester United currently sit seventh in the Premier League table, only two points off third-placed Chelsea. With Lammens commanding his area, Amorim’s side look more composed and competitive. If this trend continues, United could soon move from promising signs to genuine contenders once more.
Their next opportunity comes against Everton on 24 November, where Amorim will hope to extend that unbeaten run to six matches and further justify Ferguson’s glowing assessment.
