Charania: Boston Celtics sign Ron Harper Jr. to two way deal

The Boston Celtics have reportedly signed training camp invitee Ron Harper Jr. to a two way contract, per ESPN senior reporter Shams Charania. Harper will take the slot vacated by former St. John’s forward standout RJ Luis Jr. after Boston’s front office elected to part ways with Luis despite having traded veteran forward Georges Niang to the Utah Jazz for him (the main focus of the deal was a salary dump of Niang’s contract, but the Celtics were reportedly interested in Luis).

Likely signed on the strength of his preseason play with Boston (he put up 4.3 points and 1.0 assists per game while shooting 42.9% from 3), Harper played for Boston in training camp last season as well.

The 6-foot-6, 245. lb. guard brings size and heft to the Celtics backcourt rotation, and looks to be a promising guard developmental project for the team, joining Max Shulga and Amari Williams to round out the other two way slots.
