Texas A&M’s future cornerback rotation already includes current star redshirt sophomore Dezz Ricks and incoming 2026 five-star cornerback Brandon Arrington. Still, knowing that senior cornerback Will Lee III will declare for the 2026 NFL Draft, coach Mike Elko will need to utilize the transfer portal to pair with the younger pieces in the room.
Still, preparing for the future is vital, starting with the 2027 recruiting class, which has been well represented during the Aggies’ first four home games of the season, while this Saturday’s primetime home test vs. Florida will also serve as another opportunity to host a long list of talented prospects from the 2027 cycle, now including five-star cornerback John Meredith out of Trinity High School in Euless, Texas.
Meredith is one of the Aggies’ priority prospects and is coming off an unofficial visit to College Station. During a recent interview with Rivals insider Chad Simmons, Meredith praised Elko and the Aggies staff, who have kept in constant communication with the standout defender.
“Texas A&M is doing the best job with me right now, and they are sitting at the top of my list,” Meredith stated. “Every time I go there, it feels like home. Coach JP (Jordan Peterson) and coach Mason (Smith) make it feel like I already go there. They are hitting me up every day and they know me really well. I am treated like family every time I am on campus.”
Set to return, Meredith also stated in that interview that he has been focused on how the Aggies’ improve this season, and sitting at 5-0, paired with a secondary that, along with the defense as a whole, has played at an elite level over the last two weeks, Meredith is likely impressed with what Elko is continuing to build amid his second year at the helm.
No. 5 Texas A&M will face Florida on Saturday, Oct. 11, at 6:00 p.m. CT. The game will air on ESPN.
