WATCH: Texans’ C.J. Stroud pulverized by Titans Pro Bowler Jeffery Simmons in record time

C.J. Stroud is quite literally lucky that Jeffery Simmons didn’t drop him on his head in the first quarter of Sunday’s contest.

The Tennessee Titans’ Pro Bowl defensive tackle wasted little time pulverizing the Houston Texans quarterback as the two winless teams battled it out at NRG Stadium. While the Texans have struggled to protect Stroud this season, the beatdown was something that mesmerized everyone.

According to Next Gen Stats, Simmons’ sack time of 2.09 seconds after the snap marks the fastest sack in the NFL over the past two seasons. The veteran defensive tackle crossed the line of scrimmage 0.32 seconds after the snap, which also marks the fastest get-off time by a defensive tackle since 2022.

So, what went wrong on the offensive snap? Based on the snap, center Jake Andrews went to help with blocking defensive tackle James Lynch. Meanwhile, right guard Ed Ingram tried to block the other way, but it looked like his assignement was on Simmons. He ended up hitting nobody, thus allowing the 6-foot-6 defensive tackle to take down to wrap his arms around quarterback before he even had time to take a three-step dropback.
