Waco (Texas) La Vega wide receiver Jabarie Thornton has decommitted from Oklahoma State after Mike Gundy’s firing, he announced Tuesday.

The three-star prospect committed to Oklahoma State in April over offers Baylor, Houston, and a handful of others. But with a regime change coming, he wants to look at other options.

“Sad about it, obviously,” he told Rivals’ Sam Spiegelman after the news broke. “At the moment, I just have to talk to my family and make a decision.”

But after the rumors of Gundy’s dismissal reached a fever pitch in the past few weeks, it didn’t come as a shock to him. A few schools have already been in contact. “Honestly, wasn’t really surprised,” he added. “I’d already seen the rumors. I have been talking to other colleges like Houston, Tulsa, Baylor and North Texas.”

Thornton is the No. 1171 overall prospect in the 2026 class, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, an equally weighted average that utilizes all three major recruiting services. He also ranks as the nation’s No. 177 wide receiver and No. 166 senior recruit in Texas.

As a junior, Thornton hauled in 76 passes for 1,367 yards and 15 touchdowns while helping lead La Vega to Texas’ 4A D-II state title game. Through three games this fall, he has already racked up 18 catches, 267 receiving yards and four scores.
