Bears place Jaylon Johnson on injured reserve

Chicago Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson was already ruled out of this weekend's game against the Dallas Cowboys due to a groin injury and will now miss more time. According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the Bears are placing Johnson on injured reserve, knocking him out for at least four games, but likely more.

Earlier in the week, ESPN's Adam Schefter and Courtney Cronin reported Johnson would be out “indefinitely” due to the injury. Rapoport indicated the same in his report on Saturday, meaning it will be a while until Johnson can suit up once again.

The two-time Pro Bowl cornerback initially suffered a groin injury during the offseason that caused him to miss the entirety of training camp and the preseason. After also missing Week 1, Johnson returned to action in Week 2 against the Detroit Lions, but left in the first half. It was revealed Johnson suffered a new groin injury that will now keep him out for an extended time.

Johnson is the latest casualty for a banged-up Bears secondary. Terell Smith was lost for the season with a knee injury, while Kyler Gordon has yet to play in a regular season game due to a hamstring injury. The Bears cornerback room has been depleted in just two weeks and could remain thin for the foreseeable future.
