The star-studded Detroit Lions offense fired back at any doubters in Week 2 after a rough outing to open the season caused some concern.
Fantasy football is a game of highs and lows, and all of the Lions fantasy stars were coming off of a low in Week 1. Having two first-round caliber picks this year in Jahmyr Gibbs and Amon-Ra St. Brown likely left some fantasy managers feeling squirrelly with an offense that only mustered 246 total yards of offense against the Packers.
Week 2 was a different story. The Lions top-3 scorers combined for 92.5 fantasy points in PPR leagues, and that doesn't include a booming performance from Jameson Williams and a return to the scoreboard for David Montgomery.
Amon-Ra St. Brown: 39.2 points
Detroit's WR1 put up WR1 numbers and then some on Sunday against the Bears, catching nine of 11 targets for 115 yards and three touchdowns. St. Brown also logged two rushing attempts for seven yards on the ground.
He and quarterback Jared Goff were clicking at every level against a disastrous Chicago defense, and St. Brown led all receivers in both targets and yards. After a single-digit point performance in Week 1, St. Brown ended his Sunday in Week 2 as the No. 3 receiver in fantasy.
Jared Goff: 33.96 points
Quarterback Jared Goff also bounced back in a big way against the Bears after only managing 11.9 points in Week 1.
Goff went 23-of-28 for 334 yards, five touchdowns, and no interceptions on Sunday, and even had a short six-yard gain on the ground to top it all off. The improved offensive line play combined with a scrambling Bears defense fed right into what the Lions do best and Goff was the biggest beneficiary, getting the ball to eight different receivers.
Before Monday night's doubleheader, Goff lands firmly in the top-scoring quarterbacks in fantasy after Week 2.
Jahmyr Gibbs: 19.4 points
Running back Jahmyr Gibbs was the only Lions star entering Week 2 coming off of a relatively productive performance in Week 1. However, the Lions were able to use Gibbs in the way that they want, both running him as their feature back while also getting him involved in the passing game.
Gibbs rushed 12 times for 94 yards and a touchdown, and caught his three targets for 10 yards against the Bears. He only had one more carry than backfield mate David Montgomery, but Gibbs made up the difference with a 42-yard run.
Both running backs remain viable fantasy options for the foreseeable future.
Jameson Williams: 18.8 points
Sunday was a classic “boom” game for the often “boom-or-bust” labeled Jameson Williams.
Despite a couple of miscues between Williams and Goff, Williams still made it count when he did get the ball in his hands. He caught two of his four targets for 108 yards, including a 44-yard touchdown in the third quarter.
He'll be counted on once again next week against the Ravens, who boast a significantly better secondary than the Bears.
David Montgomery: 13.2 points
Sunday's performance against the Bears represented a return to the norm for the Lions offense, including running game between David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs.
Montgomery had 11 carries, one less than Gibbs, and 57 yards, including a goal-line touchdown run. He also caught his only target for a short, four-yard reception.
The expectation should be that the timeshare with Gibbs continues until proven otherwise.
Brock Wright: 11.8 points
Backup tight end Brock Wright had two touchdowns in 2024, but never eclipsed double-digit points. Sunday's performance represented Wright's best fantasy performance since 2022 when he had two double-digit games including a two-touchdown performance against the Bears in Week 17.
On Sunday, Wright caught all three of his targets for 28 yards and a touchdown. His point total outpaced Sam LaPorta, but without the touchdown this wouldn't appear to be any kind of trend to pay attention to.
Sam LaPorta: 5.6 points
Tight end Sam LaPorta took a back seat in the offense's performance against the Bears, catching just three of four targets for 26 yards. Jared Goff's ability to spread the ball around against Chicago made it easy for one of these fantasy stars to get left behind, and that's just what happened to LaPorta.
Against a more difficult defense like the Baltimore Ravens in Week 2, the Lions may need to rely more heavily on their tight end in the passing game.
Isaac TeSlaa: 3.9 points
Rome wasn't built in a day, but Isaac TeSlaa might be able to build it with one hand.
The rookie wide receiver only hit the stat sheet with one, incredible one-handed catch, though this week six points didn't come along with it. TeSlaa finished with the one reception for 29 yards, but wasn't targeted outside of that.
Head coach Dan Campbell again said after this week's game that he expects TeSlaa to continue getting more opportunities. Still, with a tough upcoming schedule, he'll be hard to trust in fantasy outside of a flier on your bench.
