The Fort William Gardens will host Canada’s 2025 national women’s curling championship from Feb.14 to 23.

“The box office is ready to go,” said Andy Henry, Curling Canada’s marketing and tickets manager.

“Given the circumstances that Thunder Bay has found themselves in over the past few years … with two previous attempts to fill the building, this time we’re nearly certain that we’re going to have a full house in Thunder Bay.”

Thunder Bay hosted the tournament in 2022, though pandemic restrictions meant few spectators saw the action first hand.

The city was scheduled to host in 2021 as well, but the tournament was moved to Calgary due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

It was announced in the fall that Thunder Bay would get the chance to play host again to the Scotties.

“We have a proud history hosting championship events and feel privileged Thunder Bay’s curling community and local businesses will get another chance to show what are city can offer for the thousands of visitors expected to travel here,” read a statement from Thunder Bay’s Mayor Ken Boshcoff at the time of the announcement.

Curling Canada kept a database of customers who received ticket refunds due to cancellations in 2021 and 2022. The people were given a chance to order tickets for 2025, Henry said, adding over 700 packages for the final weekend have already been sold.

“So this initial on-sale period is going to put a big dent in that capacity number without question,” said Henry.

Single draw tickets will go on sale later this fall, after the television and draw schedules have been finalized.

The capacity of the Fort William Gardens sits at about 3,000 people for a curling event. Henry said that’s similar capacity to the 2024 venue in Calgary, where the Scotties are underway this week.

This year’s playoffs are set for this weekend.

The winner of Sunday’s final represents Canada at the world championship March 16 to 24 in Sydney, N.S., and earns a return trip to the 2025 Scotties Tournament in Thunder Bay.
