The Boston Red Sox knew they struck diamonds when Roman Anthony made it to the big leagues. While he got off to a slow start, he became the heart of the offense, which led to their downfall in the playoffs.
Now, Red Sox legend Fred Lynn, the first wearer of No. 19, spoke on Anthony’s future in the MLB and how he is as a hitter. And to Lynn, Anthony will be a fearsome hitter.
“He has a really good idea of the strike zone. He doesn’t swing at bad balls, and he hits the ball the other way already. That’s key at Fenway Park for a lefty. That means he can’t be pitched in one certain way. He has options with what he wants to do with the ball. He can drive the ball [over the Green Monster] or he can pull the ball. He’s going to be a tough out,” (via Peter Abraham).
This season, Anthony slashed .292/.396/.463/.859 with 19 doubles, eight home runs, and 32 RBI in 71 games. Now that he's had a taste of the MLB, he probably will come back in the 2026 season as a menace.

And the Sox know that, too. They signed Anthony to a ridiculously team-friendly eight-year, $130 million deal to keep him in Boston for the foreseeable future.
Hopefully, Anthony takes this offseason seriously, trains hard, and comes back a terror to lead the Sox to the promised land.
