After the Kansas City Chiefs lost 22-19 to the Denver Broncos, football fans are claiming that Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes may be in hot water with the team’s head coach, Andy Reid.

The speculation stems from a post-game interview that Reid gave KMBC 9 on Monday, November 17, one day after his team lost.

“We’re calling quite a few of the RPOs [run-pass options],” said Reid, 67. “So, yesterday, they were giving us opportunities to throw the football, so we utilized the opportunities there. Those things end up being as good as a run for the other. We’re getting four-plus yards and you go with it.”

“But the runs are being called. Sometimes they get turned into passes in today’s world,” Reid continued. “You know, that’s how it goes.”

According to SB Nation, “Run-Pass option plays, or RPOs, have become common offensive designs in the modern NFL. At their core, RPOs are plays that contain both a run element, and a pass element, and the quarterback makes a decision either prior to, or just after, the snap whether to execute the run element or the passing element.”

During Sunday’s game, Mahomes, 30, chose to pass the ball often, Us Weekly reports.

Reid did not mention Mahomes by name — however, some on the social media platform X are interpreting his comments as a dig at the athlete for his performance.

“This is about as weirdly deflective of blame and weak an answer I’ve heard from Reid,” someone wrote on X.

“Is he not throwing a bit of shade on Patrick here?” another person posted.

“Oh, snap!” a person wrote.
