CAMDEN, N.J. — As the Philadelphia 76ers got back to work at practice on Friday, they are looking to bounce back from a tough end to the road trip with two straight losses in Chicago and Cleveland. The Sixers will be looking to bounce back with two games at home over the weekend starting with the Toronto Raptors on Saturday.
As the Sixers got back to work, they are still looking to have the return of some players working their way through injuries. One player who has been out Oct. 25 is Dominick Barlow who suffered a right elbow laceration in the home opener. The Sixers announced that he will see the surgeon for a follow up on Monday and is out for the next two games as coach Nick Nurse looks to continue piecing things together.
“He's, obviously, here today, but he still has that splint or partial cast or whatever it is that's making him keep his arm straight-ish,” explained Nurse. “Because the thing is right on where it ends and that's what's causing the problems. He does have a follow up, I believe, Monday as well. Hopefully, he gets out of that thing and it's healed.”
The hope is that Barlow won't be out for too much longer, but it is something that requires more medical attention at this moment in time.
“I don't see that being–I mean, I'm going to be optimistic–I don't see that being a super long rehab thing,” Nurse laughed. “I think it just needs to get healed up and he should be good to go.”
One has to wonder what's holding Barlow back on his recovery. It sounds as if it was just a simple cut, and Nurse has wondered that as well, but the Sixers are hoping he can recover soon.
“I've never seen that one,” Nurse added. “I mean, they're like 'Oh, he cut himself' and I'm like 'Well, patch him up and let's get him back in there!' you know? That was like three weeks ago when I said that. Like 'What do you mean he cut himself?' Like, OK. It falls under bizarre. Yes.”

Then, there's Paul George who has not played yet in the 2025-26 season as he works his way back from offseason arthroscopic surgery on his left knee. The Sixers stated that he will see the doctors over the weekend to assess his recovery and figure out the next steps.
“I think the last hurdle is he's going to see the doctor over the weekend,” Nurse stated. “I think that's the hurdle of them clearing him to play is the main thing and that's it.”
With that being said, George has been practicing and participating in 5-on-5 live action so there is some positives there. Nurse has seen it.
“He's looked good,” Nurse added. “I think he's moving very well. He's shooting very well. He looks good. So, I'm like everybody out there in Sixers nation. I'm hoping the doc gives him the clearance and we can get him out there. Even if it's just to get him back in the flow of things. He's gonna help us.”
The biggest area George can help the Sixers in right now is on the defensive end as that has been an area of concern to begin the season for Philadelphia.
“I always say this, too, to me, he's really good on defense,” explained Nurse. “He's got such a instinctual feel for that end of the floor and he's got the size at 6-foot-9 and the deflections and all that stuff and he's really, like, kind of a captain guy there. Like, he knows what he's doing and he helps other guys. He talks, he knows how to help other guys navigate some situations and stuff like that so that will be sueful as well.”

As for Jared McCain, he returned from his injury, but Nurse and the Sixers are going to continue to work him back in slowly at the moment.
“Again, it’s the same,” Nurse added. “He’s out there playing in the scrimmaging and stuff. I don’t think anything else has changed. We just need to keep getting him ready to go. I think for the very short term here, he’s gonna have the minuets restriction and the game restriction of back-to-backs. When we play him and stuff is to be determined.”
The Sixers and the Raptors will tip off at 7:30 p.m. EST on Saturday.
