The Georgia Bulldogs got the best of the Florida Gators during college football’s Week 10 action, downing the good guys by a score of 24-20. While the game was ostensibly as close as the final tally suggests, some last-minute mercy from Kirby Smart prevented it from being a bigger margin.
Nonetheless, for three-plus quarters, Billy Gonzales had his team in the mix for his first win as a college head coach in his debut on Florida’s sidelines. Sadly, like we have seen from this program many times this fall, the Gators found a way to seize defeat from the jaws of victory once again.
It should come as no surprise, then, that The Athletic’s latest college football rerank put together by Chris Vannini saw the Orange and Blue fall three spots after the Week 10 loss, down from No. 40 to No. 43. That puts Gonzales and Co. in between the No. 42 James Madison Dukes and No. 44 Mississippi State Bulldogs — who lost to Florida by a narrow 23-21 margin the Swamp during Week 8.
The Southeastern Conference is represented by eight schools in the top 25: Texas A&M Aggies (No. 3); Alabama Crimson Tide (No. 4); Georgia (No. 5); Ole Miss Rebels (No. 6); Texas Longhorns (No. 13); Oklahoma Sooners (No. 14); Vanderbilt Commodores (No. 16); Missouri Tigers (No. 20).
