Signs continue to point to starting quarterback John Mateer returning to the lineup for the Oklahoma Sooners. After initially being listed as questionable on the Wednesday availability report, Mateer was probable on Thursday and Friday. Ahead of kickoff, Mateer wasn't listed on the availability report, indicating he could play against the Texas Longhorns.
Brent Venables and the Oklahoma staff have been mum about Mateer playing in the Red River Showdown less than three weeks after having hand surgery. But it appears that one of the best quarterbacks in the country will take the field for the Sooners.
Elsewhere, rotational offensive tackle Logan Howland won't be available this week. Look for Michael Fasusi to start at left tackle with Luke Baklenko serving as the swing tackle for the Sooners' offense.
Keontez Lewis was listed as a game-time decision after suffering a scare last week against Kent State when he ran into the brick wall beyond the end zone. He was down for a long time in the first quarter, but was walking around in the locker room and on the field on Wednesday. If he's unable to play, the Sooners will rely on Ivan Carreon and Javonnie Gibson to take those snaps on the outside.
The Sooners offense is mostly healthy and intact and they'll need to have a good game against the Longhorns to pull out the win.
