Former Dolphins WR reveals he’ll serve 6-game suspension for PED test he failed last year

Former Miami Dolphins wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. revealed that he will serve a six-game suspension for a performance-enhancing drug (PED) violation he incurred last year.

“Before the season started, we get a lot of blood work. I get my levels back and my testosterone is like below 200,” Beckham explained on an episode of The Pivot podcast released Tuesday. “It bothers me because like knowing deep down inside like I never failed. I mean, I've never cheated.

“I couldn't tell you [what caused the test result]. We sat there with my main [physical therapist]. We we questioned everything. What is it? Could it have been this? I don't have new supplements. I don't have nothing that just — I can't put my finger on it. … I'm like, 'so what is it?' And they're just telling me it's your testosterone levels.”

Beckham, 32, signed with the Dolphins last May, but was unavailable until Week 5 after undergoing offseason procedure. But he had a limited role in the Miami offense, catching just nine passes for 55 yards in nine games played with the team. Eventually, his frustrations with the minimal production resulted in the receiver and Dolphins mutually agreeing to part ways in December.

It's unclear when exactly Beckham failed the test that eventually resulted in his suspension, but it seems to have happened during his time with the Dolphins, although his suspension wasn't served with the team.

On the podcast, Beckham said he was resentful for the way he was used in the Dolphins offense after he was sold on a bigger role by coach Mike McDaniel.

“I'm spending all my time on this and I'm not getting the reward at all,” Beckham said. “I'm not even getting it in my heart. Like a bit of resentment to have to wake up and to go into that building, even though it's a blessing and a privilege and all those things to be in the league, it just became like poison to me.

“I'm spending all this time here for nothing. I'm not even playing. I'm not even — you know, I never tell anybody business — but like all the things that I was told and sold on, for whatever reason, it just didn't happen.”

Beckham is currently a free agent and his suspension won't begin until he is signed by a team. On the podcast, the receiver listed the Los Angeles Rams, Pittsburgh Steelers, Kansas City Chiefs, and New York Giants as teams at the top of his wish list.
