Eagles vs. Bucs: Takeaways from the first half as Philadelphia holds a 24-6 lead

The Eagles' special teams continued where they left off in Week 3, blocking an early Riley Dixon punt to give Philadelphia an early 7-0 lead over Tampa Bay at Raymond James Stadium. The Eagles have been stout on defense, efficient on offense, with Kevin Patullo adding some new wrinkles and looks that led to two first-half scores.

With the second half set to begin, we're looking at takeaways and observations from the first half as Philadelphia holds a 24-6 lead over the vaunted Buccaneers.

Cameron Latu

After three practice squad elevations, Latu was signed ot the active roster. Taking over the fullback position from Ben VanSUmeren, Latu blocked a punt that led to a touchdown, then played a key role on a short Dallas Goedert touchdown.

Eagles special teams

Two blocked kicks for returns in two weeks made NFL history.

Eagles emotional penalties

Cooper DeJean's interception was overturned to an incomplete pass, and Jalyx Hunt got a personal foul penalty in the dust-up started by Quinyon Mitchell, Baker Mayfield, and Tristin Wirfs.

At one point, the Eagles received two straight 15-yard penalties on defense, and they have four first-half penalties for 55 yards as a team.

Jalen Hurts

On the Eagles' first drive, Jalen Hurts was 5-of-6 for 34 yards and a TD pass, with a 29-yard run. Overall, Hurts is 15-16 passing for 130 yards (8.1 avg), two touchdowns, zero interceptions, and a 140.1 rating. Hurts has handled the blitz, avoided untimely sacks, and rushed for 42 yards.

Kevin Patullo

The Eagles' offensive coordinator has been learning on the job and is now calling the plays. After getting Saquon Barkley involved, Patullo dialed up a nice short-yardage pass play to Dallas Goedert. Overall, the Eagles have 201 total yards, 3-5 on third downs, and a 12-16 run-pass ratio on 28 plays. Patullo has Hurts prepared and getting rid of the football.
