4 big reasons for optimism with the Steelers after 3 games

We are three weeks into the NFL regular season and if you just listened to fans and writers, you might not have anything at all to be excited about when it comes to the Pittsburgh Steelers. But that’s not us. OK, maybe it is a little bit us but after watching the Steelers squeak out a 21-14 win over the New England Patriots on Sunday, we felt like it’s only right to offer up five big reasons to be optimistic about the season going forward.

Derrick Harmon looks like a star already

The rookie made his debut last week and it didn’t take long to remind everyone why the defensive tackle was a first-round pick. Harmon could develop into an impact player on the level of Cameron Heyward and give this defense the bump it needs going forward.

Jaylen Warren has a chance to carry the offense

If the offensive line can just get a little bit better, Jaylen Warren has a chance to be a true feature back. Right now he’s able to break off some runs and fight through tacklers but if he could get some creases to exploit, he could put up huge numbers.

Chris Boswell is still on the roster

As long as the Steelers have kicker Chris Boswell, they have a shot. If the rest of the roster can keep it close, there’s no better closer in the NFL than Boswell.

The AFC North is wide open

The Steelers currently lead the AFC North at 2-1 and are tied with the Bengals. With the Jake Browning era in full swing, Cincinnati will struggle to keep pace so it is just a matter of staying ahead of the 1-2 Baltimore Ravens.

Broderick Jones is getting a little better

We aren’t quite ready to stop worrying completely but we can’t deny we have seen growth from Broderick Jones in pass protection since his move to left tackle. This unit as a whole is far from a finished product, but there is growth.
