COLUMBIA — South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer didn’t give a LaNorris Sellers injury update for the Missouri game on Sept. 16 during his news conference.
Beamer said the SEC injury report will publish Sept. 17.
Sellers was injured with 1:52 left until halftime in the 31-7 loss to Vanderbilt at home. Linebacker Langston Patterson was called for targeting on the play and was ejected.
The No. 24 Gamecocks (2-1, 0-1 SEC) now travel for their first true road test of the season, with another SEC game against the Tigers (3-0) on Sept. 20 (7 p.m., ESPN).
On Sept. 14 Beamer said he was “optimistic” about Sellers and his status for the week.
The conference publishes an injury report for SEC games each week, beginning on Wednesday night of a game week. It’s updated again on Thursday, Friday then 90 minutes before kickoff on game days.
Beamer doesn’t provide details on the nature of any of his players injuries, and kept the same protocol with Sellers. He was asked if Sellers has a concussion but would not confirm or deny.
Is Luke Doty still LaNorris Sellers’ backup quarterback?
Backup quarterback Luke Doty spoke to media on Sept. 16 and was asked if he anticipated starting in the game and after a long pause, he mentioned how Beamer would speak to the media later on.
Beamer said if the game was Sept. 16 and Sellers couldn’t play, Doty would be the starter, but the competition is still wide open for other backups this week.
In just over two quarters, Doty finished 18-of-27 for 148 passing yards and one interception.
