Sean McVay revealed after Sunday’s win over the Tennessee Titans that cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon broke his clavicle in the first half. He didn’t give a timeline for Witherspoon to return, but it’s expected to be a lengthy absence.
On Monday, the team wasted little time placing Witherspoon on injured reserve, which guarantees that he’ll miss at least four games. Given the severity of the injury, he’ll likely be out for longer than that.
With Witherspoon on IR, the Rams will now turn to Emmanuel Forbes Jr., Cobie Durant and Darious Williams at cornerback. Before the season started, McVay said he felt like the team had four starting cornerbacks and that depth will be tested starting next week.

Behind the top three cornerbacks of Forbes, Williams and Durant, the Rams also have Josh Wallace on the depth chart. Quentin Lake is primarily a nickel defender who lines up in the slot, too, so he’s practically a cornerback.
Witherspoon is a “big loss,” as McVay said Sunday, but not one the Rams can’t overcome. Even with their quality corners already on the roster, they could look to bring in help by signing a free agent, as well.
