Lakers' Adou Thiero expected to be cleared from injury for training camp

Los Angeles Lakers rookie Adou Thiero is reportedly expected to participate in training camp when it begins next month, according to Dan Woike of The Athletic.

Thiero was diagnosed with a left knee hyperextension at Arkansas and missed the last eight games of the season. He was in the final stages of his return-to-play process last month and ruled out of playing with the Lakers in summer league.

The 36th pick has been around for much of the offseason, training at the team practice facility in preparation for his rookie campaign. He appears to have recovered from the injury and will be on the court when the Lakers start training camp.

There were definitely some eyebrows raised around the NBA when Thiero missed summer league with a knee issue, but I can finally offer a little optimism (we’re 1,000 or so words in so I probably should). I’ve been told Thiero has been working out in the Lakers’ facility and is expected to be participating once training camp opens at the end of September.

Thiero averaged a career-high 15.1 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.6 steals on 54.5% shooting from the field in 27 games as a junior last season. He was tied for the most points on the team (407), despite missing time with his injury.

The 21-year-old Thiero reportedly agreed to sign a three-year, $5.95 million contract with the Lakers on July 6 via the second-round pick exception. The first two years are guaranteed on the contract, which includes a team option in the last season.

After missing summer league, Thiero is working to prepare himself to contribute to the team. He will likely have his work cut out for him to crack the rotation, but he appears to be up for the challenge.
