About 24 hours later, the Sainte-Marie, Que., native defeated Frenchman Aidan Chollet in the big final on home snow Sunday at Mont-Sainte-Anne in Beaupré, Que.

Grondin has back-to-back Crystal Globe wins on the World Cup circuit, and it comes a week after he won world championship gold in Switzerland.

“It’s amazing. It’s been a hectic past 10, 12 days. Today, I just wanted to win at home in front of everybody,” he said.

Canada’s Grondin caps off World Cup snowboard cross season with win, hoists 2nd career Crystal Globe

Éliot Grondin captured a World Cup snowboard cross win Sunday at Mont-Sainte-Anne, wrapping up the overall season crystal globe title.

It’s Grondin’s first victory in six races at Mont-Sainte-Anne.

“The energy [here] is crazy, especially in the semifinal and big final in the start gate,” he said. “I could hear the fans cheering me, and that says a lot about [them].

“It’s always been a great race here, and to not have missed a podium in six races here is unreal.”

The 23-year-old needed a top-three finish in Saturday’s event to claim the Crystal Globe and followed through with a loss in the big final to Austria’s Jakob Dusek.

Grondin won three gold medals, three silver and a bronze on the World Cup circuit this season.
